Gestalt Therapy
I have advanced training in Gestalt Therapy through the Appalachian Gestalt Therapy Institute (AGTI). Gestalt Therapy is focused on the ‘here and now’ versus the ‘there and then.’ I believe that the individual is always doing what they want to do, but creates anxiety and frustration when they are unwilling to acknowledge this. Through taking responsibility for what they are doing in the ‘here and now’ the individual is free to make more empowered and enjoyable decisions.
When done well, the therapeutic process can be lively, engaging, humorous, playful, and meaningful. Furthermore, I am interested in the range of emotions that you experience, especially as they pertain to the therapeutic relationship. I believe it is a marker of trust when the client is willing and able to acknowledge their feelings, in particular, anger and frustration with me.
Gestalt therapy may be a good fit for you if you are interested in a dynamic and spontaneous relationship where the therapist strives to be involved. This is for people who are interested in their process and are wanting to continue developing their curiosity and enjoyment of themselves and the other. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.
